Ava Lo (MA, B E& F)

Ava obtained Master of Arts (Musicology) from the Central Conservatory of Music and Bachelor of Economics and Finance from the University of Hong Kong. She learnt pipa with Mr. Yim Man Ming and Mr. Qiu Shao Bin, and studied music theory and composition with Mr. Qiu. She currently followed famous pipa performer Miss Poon Ngor Tsing to further enhance pipa playing skills. She has passed ABRSM Grade 8 Theory in Music, China Nationalities Orchestra Society’s “National Ethnic Musical Instruments Artistic Level” Grade 10 Pipa <Distinction>, Certificate of Examination Teacher (Advanced), and was awarded the Honorary Certificate of Brilliant Teacher by the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. She was awarded the “Artistic Achievement Award <Music>” in 2010.
Ava has been teaching Chinese Music for more than ten years. She is good at teaching most kind of plucked instruments as well as conducting Chinese orchestras, and is now being the conductor of Kwai Tsing Chinese Orchestra. Many of her students and orchestras got prizes in various competitions, and some of the students have become music tutor as well.
Ava joined New Tune Chinese Orchestra since 1996, and is currently being deputy director and pipa principal. She visited Beijing, Shanghai, Zhuhai, Macau, Lanzhou, Taiwan, and Indonesia for performances. She often played a solo or lead role in the concerts, and was well received by audience. She is currently being the co-opted member of Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi District Arts Council.
